Remembering Riverside Inn - Ozark, MO

We have been working on a project to create memorabilia to preserve the legacy of Riverside Inn in Ozark, MO. Riverside Inn will be closing due to increased flooding from the Finley River. The last night for dinner will be December 12, 2009. In addition to calendars and mugs, there will be coffee table books, photo DVD's and greeting cards. Here are a few images from a photo shoot we did this weekend. We call this type of image Abstract Flora, which is a macro shot of a flower or plant where most of the time the image is out of focus (shallow depth of field) except a small point. The image itself is often abstract using lines, shape and color to create a soft surreal image.

23° this morning and a bit breezy. Not as windy as yesterday morning though. Every morning is a beautiful morning when you can find these kinds of places to make PhotoArt. PhotoArt is a practice in which we take photography and create Fine Art Prints for our customers. Check out these dramatic images of a local Power Plant just off Springfield Lake here in good `ol Springfield, MO. Even a Power Plant can look great with the right touches!

Here are a few new images from a recent outing in downtown Springfield, MO. The images feature a walking bridge that extends over a railroad yard which parallels Commercial Street in Springfield. These images are from some of the oldest parts of Springfield.

How To Make Sketches from your Favorite Photos

Make sketches from your favorite photographs.

Here is a really neat program that will allow you to make a nice sketch of your favorite photograph. The program simulateboth color and B&W in pencil and a watercolor effect. The program is called AKVIS Sketch. AKVIS makes many other programs and plug-ins that are fantastic.

New Photos Posted to Flickr

Early morning photos in downtown Springfield, Missouri. There was an early morning fog that I couldn't resist getting up at 4:30 AM for.

How to make this Image:

In Photoshop, first start with a color photo, duplicate the layer, turn the top layer into a b&w using your technique of choice then add a layer mask to the top layer. Using the standard paint brush in various sizes, harshness and flow rates, remove some of the top layer to let the color come through.

I used an HDR shot for this image but you don't have to. An HDR shot just made the sign and lights more intense.
